The 2nd grade at MES has reached a major milestone by achieving their reading goal of 1,000 pages in the Shared Reading Component of Bookworms. They tracked their progress throughout the year and officially surpassed their goal after finishing the first chapter of a new book. The students are thrilled and have become more motivated and confident readers, with many eagerly seeking additional books to read. Their enthusiasm for reading has grown, especially among reluctant readers. MCPS is incredibly proud of their progress and looks forward to their continued growth.

Fifth grade students explored the world of engineering during Engineers Week, thanks to a special visit from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District! Two engineers explained how they contribute to public health and the quality of our waterways. Students then put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building marble runs. This activity not only sparked creativity but also illustrated the practical applications of engineering principles. Just like HRSD engineers design efficient wastewater systems, students had to think strategically about how to move their marble from point A to point B in the safest and most efficient way possible!

Pre-kindergarten students enjoyed a week focused on learning through music! Wolf Trap Teaching Artists partner with teachers to deliver joyful, active learning through the arts.
