Throughout the month of January, Kindergarten and 1st Grade Colts have done a deep dive into geometry and measurement. 📏
Students have been busy mastering essential vocabulary and getting hands-on with various measurement tools! It’s been fun watching them explore different units of measurement to compare:
Length: Using rulers and cubes to determine how long or short objects are. 📏
Mass: Using scales to compare & feel the difference between heavy and light items. ⚖️
Volume: Exploring how much space liquids or solids take up in different containers. 🧪
We’ve enjoyed watching Colts build, sort, and measure their way through these interactive lessons!

An immersive, real-world learning experience centered on running a bakery, students applied their math skills to solve contextual problems, followed by a hands-on session where they baked cakes and cookies.
Developed & facilitated by our 5th grade math teachers & math coach, students engaged in activities that involved scaling recipes to adjust batch sized, precise measurement, and financial literacy. The highlight of the experience was a "grand opening," where students welcomed teachers and staff to sample their decorated sweet treats. The activity successfully engaged students, demonstrating the practical application of their mathematical knowledge!
