Under the guidance of Mrs. Boucher, 5th-grade students Liam Briggs, Maddyn O’Leary, Avery Dobyns, Carson Spurlock, and Londyn Jones shared their incredible hands-on science experiences during the March School Board Meeting! 🧬 Students showcased how collaboration with our community partners brings learning to life, from exploring local history at the Fairfield Foundation’s Timberneck House 🏛️ and diving into marine ecology with the Virginia Institute for Marine Science 🌊 and the Friends of the Rappahannock (Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation) 🦪, to investigating engineering with the Hampton Roads Sanitation District. 💧

It was inspiring to see these students present their findings with such confidence and passion, highlighting the power of strong collaboration & community partnerships! 🌟🚀

MES Second-grade students are transforming abstract concepts into hands-on discoveries by using number cards to master place value! 🔢 By physically arranging digits to build two- and three-digit numbers, students can see exactly how the position of a "5" changes its worth from five ones to fifty or even five hundred. 🏗️ Using number cards, this exploration naturally leads into comparing numbers, where students use their understanding of the hundreds, tens, and ones places to determine which values are greater than or less than others. ⚖️ It is wonderful experience to realize how much power a single digit can have! 💡

🏠The best part about these skills is that they don't have to stay at school! You can easily keep the momentum going at home with simple card games:

  • Using a standard deck of cards, have each player draw two to three cards to create the largest possible number. The person with the higher value wins the round! 🃏

  • Uno Math: Use Uno cards to practice "Greater Than/Less Than." Draw two cards and have your child use the correct comparison vocabulary to describe the relationship between them. 🔴🟢

  • Build a Number: Deal three cards to each player and see who can build the number closest to a "target" number (like 500). 🎯

Ms. Daddario's 1st grade class opened their very own Market Day!
From the first "sale" to the final closing bell, Market Day was an absolute blast.

🌟 Business Was Booming!
Our 1st graders took their roles seriously, and it showed. We saw:
💰 Master Mathematicians: Counting out change like pros.
🤝 Expert Negotiators: Using their best "customer service" voices.
🎨 Creative Creators: Selling everything from handmade suncatchers to jewelry.

🧠 Lessons Learned
While it looked like all fun and games, these students were actually putting some big concepts to work:
Economics 101: They learned the difference between wants and needs.
Social Skills: They practiced eye contact, clear communication, and patience.
Financial Literacy: Balancing "budgets" and seeing their hard work pay off!

🏅 GOING FOR THE GOLD IN PE! 🏅

The spirit of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics has officially taken over our gym! Athletes traded their sneakers for "skis" and "bobsleds" as we competed in our very own Winter Games. ❄️🏃‍♂️

Students have been representing countries from all over the world 🌎 while testing their skills in:

⛷️ Slalom Skiing – Navigating the "slopes" with incredible balance!

🥌 Curling – Strategy and teamwork were on full display at the rink.

🏒 Ice Hockey – Some future MVPs in the making!

🛷 Bobsledding – Speed, coordination, and a lot of laughs.

It’s about more than just the "medal count"—it’s about sportsmanship, trying new things, and Dreaming Together! ✨ We are so proud of how our students supported their teammates and cheered for every country. 👏

Check out these snapshots of our winter champions in action! 📸👇
